  • Counselling

People come for counselling for many reasons, it could be they are struggling with anxiety and low mood, stress, Bereavement, loss or relationship problems to name a few. You might be looking for coping techniques/strategies to help you with a certain problem or to get a better understanding of yourself and important others in your life. Whatever your reason for coming to counselling it could be to talk freely in a non judgemental setting, support through a difficult and traumatic time or to achieve a more life balance we can achieve these goals together.

I work in an integrative way, which means that I draw on my core humanistic training (person centred) together with the knowledge and experience gained from further professional development including CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), SFT(Solution Focused Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Trauma Processing ( See next paragraph), to offer what is most relevant to you. I work short term and long term depending on your specific needs.

    Sessions last for 50 mins

    Trauma Processing

During the last 2 years I have been completing a PG Dip (level 7) in Traumatology and PTSD. This has taught me a comprehensive and systematic approach to treating complex trauma and PTSD in adults. This includes a detailed assessment, psycho-education, safety and stabilisation, emotional regulation and trauma processes. These include IRRT (Image Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy), PET (Prolonged Exposure Therapy), NET (Narrative Exposure Therapy), ERRT (Exposure Relaxation and Rescripting Therapy for Post-Trauma Nightmares) and CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) which are all the recommended treatments for Trauma and PTSD in the NICE guidelines.

Lots of people will experience some type of trauma in their lives and these trauma processes are very well researched in helping people file away the memories properly to either prevent or help with PTSD. These techniques can be used on one event or multiple (complex trauma).

    Sessions last for 50 minutes

    EMDR

EMDR is an eight staged approach on treating trauma effectively. It is highly scientifically researched and is recommended in the NICE guidelines. It can be used for many issues including

     Anger

     Anxiety

 Depression and other mood disorders

 Experiences/Memories that are painful to recall

     Loss and Grief

     Pain reduction

     Relationship/Attachment issues

     Self-esteem improvement

     Stress management

 Trauma: violence/abuse, car accidents, natural disasters

EMDR can be a quicker treatment than others offered and is often favoured by clients due to not having relive the event moment by moment and keeping the client grounded in the present day. This approach focuses on images and bodily reactions rather than talking in depth around the event.

Sessions can last between 50 to 90 mins.

  • How do I start the ball rolling?

You can contact me directly on 07977298284 to discuss any queries you have. Please leave a message with your contact details (including phone number), and I’ll get back to you or you can email me.

Our first session will be an opportunity for you to explore what has brought you to counselling and to decide if I am the right person to help you. You can outline your worries, issues, concerns and fears; whether they are current problems or experiences from the past which are still causing you distress. In this session, we will discuss what you are hoping to achieve from counselling/trauma work so that we know where we are aiming for in our work together.

    Referrals

I receive referrals form Health Insurance Companies, EAPS, Occupational Health Departments and self referrals.

Sessions can be held face to face in my private practice in Talbot Green (Counselling Hub) or online/phone.

Counselling sessions can be as often as clients would like

Trauma processing – sessions shouldn’t be no more than 2 weeks apart.

    Initial Meeting

This session will be 50 mins and it will help determine what the client wants out of therapy.

Together we will come up with a plan moving forward and if counselling or trauma processing is more suitable.
